Al-Shabab fighter has on Saturday defected to Somali authorities in Gedo region.
Abdihakim Hussein Yussuf who has been fighting for the last four years alongside his Al-Shabab comrades has deserted the group following what he termed Al-Shabab’s extortion.
Yussuf surrendered himself to the authorities of Beled Hawa, a town near Somalia’s border with Kenya.
The state owned media said the fighter was paraded in the town by Somali Security forces.
His surrender comes barely three days after another Al-Shabab fighter defected to the government.

Shah who was said to have been in the company of another fighter, was in charge the group’s violence activities as reported by SONNA.
In February, President Farmajo has extended an olive branch to the fighters by offering them amnesty conditioned with denouncing violence.
Ali Hassan Abdi, a security official told SONNA that the number of Al-Shabab fighters defecting to the government gradually increased.
Al-Shabab which wants to depose Somali government has lost many towns including the capital city after it engaged in many deadly battles with the government forces backed by AMISOM troops.
The group is till posing security threat to the government by carrying out deadly bomb attacks and raids on the military bases of Somali and AMISOM forces.
