KISMAYU (Halbeeg) – Al-Shabaab has pulled out its fighters from Jamame town as Somali and AU troops plan an onslaught to capture it.
Since 2012 when the group lost control of Mogadishu and Kismayu, it has been training its fighters and operating fully in the agricultural towns of Jamama and Jilib in Southern Somalia.
Somali military Force commander of the 43rd Battalion, Osman Haji Adan who spoke to media said Al-Shabaab fled the town after SNA and AU launched a major attack targeting the group’s fighters in the town of Jamame.
“They withdrew their fighters from the town and are moving towards Jilib town and the information from sources says Al-Shabaab rolled down their tents yesterday in the night and moved outside the town,” Adan said.
He vowed that offensives against Al-Shabaab will not be deterred until the town is liberated.
“Our forces are gearing up for the capture of Jamame town and no efforts by the Al-Shabaab will interfere with the impending capture of the port city,” said
He said the fleeing fighters were planning to regroup when the gunships of the allied forces attacked, several destroying technical vehicles.
Neither independent source nor Al-Shabaab confirmed the withdrawal of the group’s fighters.
Al-Shabaab which wants to topple the internationally recognised Somali government has been fighting AU and Somalia military soldiers in Southern Somalia.
The group conducts deadly attacks in Somali capital and other major towns in the south and central Somalia.
