MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – A senior al-Shabaab bomb expert surrendered to Somali government on Thursday in Garbaharey town in Gedo region, southern Somalia.
Somali Ministry for Information said Yussuf Ahmed Adow turn himself in to local authorities.
“A senior al-Shabaab bomb expert, Yusuf Ahmed Adow has today surrendered to Somali National Armed Forces in Garbaharey, Gedo region,” a tweet by the ministry reads.
According to the State-owned media, before deciding to defect, Farah had been in contact with some of his relatives who are members of the government forces.
Farah is the first high-profile member of al-Shabaab bomb experts known to have defected since January in Garbaharey.
The move comes barely a day two al-Shabaab fighters surrendered to Somali authorities in Dollow town in Gedo region.
According to the reports, the men also handed over two Ak47 riffles to the government officials.
Mid last month, senior al-Shabaab commander surrendered to Somali security forces in Bardhere town.
According to NISA, Aden Abdi, known as Aden Obe, defected from the group and surrendered to the government forces.
