MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somali security forces arrested al-Shabaab operative in operation on a centre run by the group.
In a Twitter post, Somali National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) said its forces arrested al-Shabaab ringleader following a raid on a centre.
“NISA forces detained al-Shabaab hit squad member who was also a ringleader in a hideout used by the militants to prepare IEDs explosives,” the Twitter post reads.
NISA did not mention the time and location of the operation.
Al-Shabaab did not yet comment on the claim of the agency.
Somali forces have recently intensified their operations against Al-Shabaab militants in Southern Somalia.
Al-Shabaab has carried out deadly explosions in Mogadishu and the other major town in Southern Somalia including last year’s truck bombing which claimed the lives of over 500 people and injured hundreds of others.
The group lost the control of Mogadishu in 2011 after Somali military backed by troops from African Union defeated the group’s fighters.
