MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Al-Shabaab fired motor shells on military bases manned by African Union troops in Middle Shabelle region.
The attacks which happened on Saturday night at the AMISOM base in Hawo-Tako neighbourhood of Ballad town.
Some of the shells fired by Al-Shabab reportedly landed inside the base of AMISOM but it was not immediately clear whether they caused casualties and damages.
Sources in those areas say after motor shell attacks, AMISOM troops engaged brief gun battle with Suspected Al-Shabaab fighters.
AMISOM officials did comment the attacks on their bases.
On the other hand, Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility, saying the shelling caused casualties on AU soldiers.
Al-Shabaab fighters who have been fighting Somali and AU troops since 2007 were pushed out of Mogadishu by Somali forces with the backing of African Union troops in 2011.
AU troops are helping the Somali government forces to battle Al-Shabaab fighters, who have carried out frequent attacks against AMISOM, Somali government troops, and civilian targets in and outside the capital
