NAIROBI (Halbeeg News) – Two foreign women among an American woman have been rescued in suspected militia attack in Witu, Lamu County.
According to Kenyan police statement, the four who included the two women of Italian were rescued after they were held hostage by suspected militia in Witu forest.
The unnamed woman was taken by the militants, who were disguised as Kenyan army soldiers, The Star reported.
“GK B205U left the GSU headquarters enroute to Mokowe under I/c of C.I Gituma Of GSU C coy. On reaching Witu forest, we encountered a roadblock laid by suspected al-Shabaab militia numbering about 10 who disguised as KDF officers,” the statement reads.
Witu is a small town in Lamu County.
Police said the militants had stopped around four vehicles before their arrival.
“They fired at our vehicle several shots. We took cover and responded forcing them to flee into the forest while firing at us. We sought reinforcement from Rdu Nyaatha GSU Kasakairu, SOG Nyangoro and KDF who arrived later,” the statement further reads.
