ADDIS ABABA (Halbeeg News-Ethiopia will start issuing the new digital Identification Cards. According to the office of Federal Documents Authentication and Registration Agency, the process will kick off next week.
Registration agency said it is planning to continue issuing the new digital ID in the remaining sub-cities of Addis Ababa, according to state broadcaster- ETV.
The report also indicated that unlike the previous Kebele ID of Addis Ababa, the new digital ID would not have tribe and birthplace of the bearer.
The introduction of information technology-based digital ID in Ethiopia is expected to help the curb challenges encountered in dealing with criminals and tax evasions.
With help from security agencies, Ethiopia’s Ministry of revenue has recently arrested business owners operating with fake identities.
The issuing of the digital ID exercise is expected to conclude before the upcoming May 2020 national election.
