Sheikh Adan Madobe, who is one of the lawmakers elected from Southwest state, has declared his bid to vie for the speakership of Somali Lower House.
The position of the Lower House speaker has been vacant since last week when the immediate former Speaker, Mohamed Osman Jawari stepped down following a month-long political standoff.
Madobe who spoke to the media has announced his candidature for the office that he had served once.
“I hereby declare that I am candidate vying for the speakership of the House of the People, I served this office when there was no budget and no fund. Therefore, I have that experience to serve this position,” said Madobe.
Modobe who occupied the office of the speaker of the Parliament during the Transitional Federal Government led by late Abullahi Yussuf has served as minister for Justice in same government.
The man has also briefly served as an acting President just after Yussuf resigned from the office.
As political group and lobbies are circulating their campaign messages, various candidates have shown their interests in the position that is the third most powerful office after the president and Prime minister offices.
The election campaigns of the speaker are expected to gain momentum in the forthcoming days.
Jawari who had been serving the office since post transitional government has resigned from the office after an impeachment motion against him culminated in month-long political tensions.
