MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Abdikadir Sharif Sheikhuna, the speaker of Southwest state Assembly who is also the acting president of the state has met with officials from the security forces in the state.
The meeting of the sides has focused on the security of the presidential election slated for later this week.
Among those who attended the meeting, are Interior Minister of Southwest, State Minister for Interior and the commander of the 3rd battalion of the forces.
Mr, Kheikhuna directed the officials to beef up the security of the administrative capital of the state, Baidoa.
The regional assembly of South West State is due to hold a presidential election on 17 November.
Recent weeks, Somali forces backed by AU troops intensified operations against Al-Shabab in Bay and Bakol regions of southern Somalia.
In October, two blasts in Baidoa town, which lies about 240 kilometers (150 miles) northwest of Mogadishu killed at least 15 people and injured more than 30 others.
Al-Shabab controlled Baidoa between 2009 and 2012 before being driven out by Ethiopian-backed government forces.
