History has been made on Sunday in Dhusamareeb as the first member of the Lower House was elected in the town for first time since the 10th Parliament was established 2016.
Abdullahi Farah Wehliye became the first MP elected in the administrative capital of Galmudug state since the inception of the state.
Wehliye has garnered 28 votes out of 51 votes of the electoral delegates who participated in the election.
His opponents, Mohamed Elmi Afrah got 17 votes as Abdullahi Farah Hirsi trailed a distant third with 3 votes.
Three votes were declared spoilt by the electoral body.
The Chairperson of Somali independent electoral commission (IEC) Halima Ismail Ibrahim who finally announced the resulted has commended the process of the election saying the candidates have shown commitment and collaboration during the election.
The today’s election was also welcomed by Galmudug leaders and members of Galmudug assembly.
Galmudug State chief minister, Sheikh Mohamed Shakir who spoke at the hall has urged the newly elected MP to serve the state and the country sincerely.
The Parliamentary seat whose election was held today was vacated by late Bootan Isse Aalin who dead in India following long illness .
The election of this seat has sealed the number of the Lower House seats as it is the last remaining and final one to be held.
The independent electoral commission (IEC) has held the elections of two other seats in Hirshabelle and Jubbaland states which were vacated by Said Hassan Gedi and Abas Abdullahi Siraji respectively who passed away under different circumstances.
