MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – The family of a Somali Scholar who was kidnapped in Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) last week has dismissed claims that their kin was found alive, saying the political analyst Abdiwahab Sheikh Abdisamad is still missing.
In a statement, the family urged Kenyans to continue assisting the family in the search, maintaining that those spreading the rumour had ill intentions.
“He is still missing, and his family is unaware of his whereabouts. The family would appreciate any information on his whereabouts and will continue to press the authorities to release him unconditionally,” the statement read in part. “The family wishes to dispel claims that Abdiwahab has been found, and encourages anyone spreading false and misleading information to stop.”
Abdisamad was abducted in broad daylight by four men who handcuffed him and bundled him into a waiting double-cabin vehicle.
Early this week, Kenya’s Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss George Kinoti announced that DCI launched investigations into the circumstances under which a horn of Africa Analyst who was abducted in Nairobi.
Speaking to the Supreme Council of Kenya Muslim leadership who presented themselves at the DCI Headquaters seeking to draw his attention to the rising cases of enforced disappearances, Kinoti committed to investigations to establish the whereabouts of Abdiwahab Sheikh Abdisamad.
His family filed a missing person’s report at the Central and Akila police stations.
Anyone with information on his whereabouts is requested to contact his wife or human rights group Haki Africa.
