Mogadishu, (Halbeeg News) – Abdikarim Ahmed Hassan has been elected as Somalia’s National Independent Electoral and Boundary Commission.
Hassan emerged victorious during an election held in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu Monday which was conducted by show of hands.
As the new chairman of the electoral body, Hassan will be tasked with leading the commission in overseeing the implementation of the one-person, one-vote electoral system in Somalia, marking a significant milestone in the country’s democratic process.
The Independent National Electoral and Boundary Commission will also be tasked with implementing critical laws approved by the 11th Somali Federal Parliament pertaining to political parties, associations, and the framework for nationwide public elections based on individual voting rights.
The commission, comprising 18 members, has received formal approval from the Federal Government’s Council of Ministers, the 11th Federal Parliament’s bicameral houses, and the President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
Earlier the president officially announced the formation of the consisting of the commission consisting of 18 members through a presidential decree.
