MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somalia’s efforts to eradicate rampant corruption that engulfed many of the government’s parastatals and private sector seem to have resulted good shape of transparency, the country’s attorney general said.
Addressing the media on Saturday in Mogadishu, Somalia’s attorney general, Suleiman Mohamed Mohamud said the country’s war on corruption heralded the start of a new Somalia.
The official said It brought hope that the country was headed for better times ahead as the leaders of country had been at the forefront of the anti-graft war, constantly pushing for investigative and prosecutorial agencies to fast-track corruption cases.
Mohamud expressed the need for the urgency to combat corporate, individual and government corruption in the country.
He vowed to continue fight graft saying his office is committed to undertake an aggressive campaign against fraud and abuse of public trust.
‘It is not right to Somalia always to be the front page for corruption, we have come clear about this issue, it is the judiciary which is support to work on eradicating of this issue,” he said.
The remarks of the attorney general come amid close a dozen high officials sent to penitentiary after convicted stealing public property and misuse of public offices.
