Puntland minister for Ports on Wednesday evening suffered light injury on the hand and upper part of his body when the state forces allegedly opened fired during traffic jam in Bossaso town.
The motorcade of Ahmed Sa’id Abdi got stuck in traffic jams while heading to his house, forcing the soldiers to fire in the air to clear the traffic congestion.
Reports say bullets fired by one of the soldiers wounded Abdi who was subsequently rushed to hospital for treatment.
It is yet unclear the circumstance which caused the minister to sustain injury.
Witnesses told Halbeeg that the incident which occurred at a rush hour took place near Aargada Ga’a, a busy junction that is known notorious traffic congestion.
The authorities of the semi-autonomous regional state of Puntland did not comment on the incident.
The narrow roads in the port city are causing frequent traffic jam that necessitated deployment of officers to ease the condition.
