A plane carrying 76 Somali prisoners released from Indian jails landed at Adan Adde international airport on Sunday evening.
The deputy prime minister of federal government of Somalia Mahdi Mohamed Guleed, senior government officials and civil society from all walks received these prisoners when their plane touched down the airport.
The prisoners passed their gratitude to the federal government on its efforts to restore their dignity and freedom after they spent years in jail.
The former detainees were released after negotiations between the two countries.
They were captured by Indian Navy off Somali coast before seven years for suspect piracy.
Addressing the media briefly, the deputy prime minister stated that the government will take every step possible to free all Somali prisoners in foreign jails.
Early this year the government has also repatriated several Somali prisoners who were held by militias in Libya.
