NAIROBI (Halbeeg) Nine people have been killed in a grisly road crash on Nairobi-Mombasa highway on Wednesday, officials confirmed.
Another 20 people were injured in the dawn accident, which occurred between Emali and Sultan Hamud in Makueni County of Kenya.
A bus belonging to the Mombasa-based BusCar company was bound for Mombasa Island when collided head-on with a truck burst.
The bus which was 39 passengers trying to overtake another vehicle when the crash happened.
Makueni County Commissioner Mohammed Maalim confirmed the deaths said the injured had been rushed to Kilome Nursing Home for medication.
Burst into flames

“The vehicles collided head-on and went up in flames,” said Mr Maalim, “Nine people died and 20 others were injured. Those who were injured were rushed to a local hospital.”
Kilungu police chief Paul Odede who spoke to the media said ten people are feared to have been burnt beyond recognition after the bus caught fire.
“Remains of some of the passengers who had been burned beyond recognition were still trapped in the wreck of the bus,” said Odede.
It was not immediately clear what caused the flames.
Mr. Odede said police were investigating the actual cause of the accident.
