Over thirty members of Hirshabelle Assembly filled motion against the Parliament Speaker, Sheikh Osman Barre Mohamed.
Following meetings in the administrative capital of the state, Jowhar, the MPs appended their signatures to a no-confidence motion accusing the speaker of incompetence and violations of Hirshabelle state.
Noor Hashi, one of the lawmakers who proposed the scheme said Barre failed to lead the House sessions.
“The third session of the Assembly is underway, yet all the operations of the House came to a standstill due to the incompetence of the leadership,” said Hashi.
Hashi said the MPs formed caucus to implement the motion which will be debated soon.
He accused the speaker of the assembly of laxity and lack of commitment.
“All the leaders of the government are accountable to the Parliament and no one is above the law, we want to hold the speaker accountable,” he said.
The move comes just two weeks after over 42 Hirshabelle MPs led by the speaker went to Nairobi for a capability building workshop.
The trip created sharp division between the lawmakers who disagreed over the management of the dispatching delegates.
The Parliament of Hirshabelle state which is the youngest of regional states in the country was formed late 2016.
Since its establishment, the Assembly developed Standing Orders, drafted its constitution, established accountability committee and approved the state’s budget for the first time.
