Las Anod (Halbeeg News) — Fire fighters in Las Anod recovered the body of a 5-year-old boy who fell into an open sewer on Thursday afternoon while playing with fellow children in the area.
Rescue teams together with local community members combined efforts to rescue the boy in vain.
“We did our best and used a lot of resources. I’d like to thank the rescue teams and the local administration for their help in successfully retrieving the body, though sadly, the child did not survive. We pray that Allah grants his family patience,” said Mohamud Ahmed Adan, a local official who coordinated the operation.
Adan also expressed gratitude to the firefighters, paying tribute to one of them who made the ultimate sacrifice during the rescue.
“I’d also like to thank the firefighters, especially since one of them died during the rescue operation,” Adan added.
The rescue operation was hampered by lack of equipment such as ladders and ropes which delayed the process.
