MOGADISHU ( Halbeeg News) – At least 35 people are undergoing treatment in Mogadishu’s Banadir hospital for a suspected case of food poisoning.
According to Banadir regional officials, the patients who are mostly women and children from the internally displaced camps in the city developed the complications following consumption of porridge rations on Sunday.
The oatmeal was supplied by an unnamed nongovernmental organization in the displaced persons in the camps.
The deputy governor of Banadir regional administration, Basma Haji Shaketi said the authorities through the ministry of health are investigating the cause of the contamination.
Shaketi called upon the residents in the capital to avoid the consumption of food supplement provided at mother and child health facilities in the city till further notice.
International non-governmental organizations through local partners provide support to over half a million internally displaced persons in the Somali capital.
The IDPs fled conflict, drought and famine south-central regions of the country.
