MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – The Somali government has stopped Somalis from travelling to the Middle East to take up jobs as domestic workers.
In a statement, the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs said it had gone a step further and revoked all the permits and licenses previously issued by recruitment agencies, as most of them did not follow due procedures in the recruitment of the workers.
The ministry expressed concern over the plight of migrant workers following numerous complaints and deaths, saying no other Somalis should be allowed to be exported to seek house help jobs in the Gulf states.
There has been a jump in the numbers moving abroad in search of greener pastures despite the rising abuse cases by employers in the Middle East.
