MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somali military said its forces recaptured a village following fierce fighting with al-Shabaab fighters in central Somalia.
According to a statement, Somali military forces killed dozens of al-Shabaab fighters in the clashes which place in Qayib village under the Galgaduud region.
“Somali National Army has today recaptured Qayib village after al-Shabaab fighters were defeated. Dozens of fighters were also eliminated during the fighting,” the statement reads in part.
The officials also confirmed that the forces seized weapons and medical kits.
The development comes hours after the Somali government claimed to kill 100 al-Shabaab fighters in NISA-led operations against al-Shabaab in the Middle Shabelle region during operations over the weekend.
According to the information ministry, the Somali military, NISA and international partners collaborated on an operation in the Masjid Ali-Gadudd and Bur-olow, also known as Doilile.
Somali forces in collaboration with local militias have recently intensified operations against al-Shabaab fighters in Hiiraan and Galgadud regions.
The forces seized villages and towns in the regions.
