MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News)-Somali military has managed to repulse al-Shabaab fighters following an attack on Bal’ad town, 30km north of Somali capital.
Heavily armed al-Shabaab fighters on Monday stormed the town from different directions prompting hours-long clashes with Somali army and al-Shabaab.
According to sources, despite the fierce fight, the group did fail to drive Somali soldiers from the town.
“There heavy clashes between the sides large of part of a night, we kept indoors, but SNA remained in control of the town,” a local resident who sought anonymity told the media.
Military officials say the troop made progress and pushed backed al-Shabaab fighters.
The military soldiers have reportedly cleared the area to ensure the threat was eliminated.
