CHRISTCHURCH (Halbeeg News)-The government of Somalia has strongly condemned a terror attack that targeted two mosques in New Zealand city of Christchurch on Friday.
The Federal government has joined the international community in condemning the heinous act in the strongest terms.
Press statement released by the ministry of foreign affairs hours after the attack reaffirmed solidarity with the government and people of the New Zealand.
” The Federal Government of Somalia strongly condemns the brutal terrorist attack against Muslim mosques of Al Noor and Lindwood in Christchurch, New Zealand.” said part of the statement adding ” Somalia reaffirms its solidarity with government and people of the New Zealand and expresses sincere condolences with the family of the victims.”
Mogadishu called upon the New Zealand authorities to investigate the crime while working towards international response to confront the heinous act.
” The Federal Government of Somalia calls on the government of the New Zealand to conduct thorough investigations into this terrible terror act, which it considers a heinous cowardly crime requiring a unified Islamic and international stand to confront and expel all terrorist acts and extremists.”
49 people were confirmed dead and more than 20 wounded after gunmen targeted Muslim congregation during Friday prayers on two separate mosques.
Four suspects are in custody according to the police and the main suspect behind the barbaric attack is expected to be arraigned in court on Saturday.
World leaders have unequivocally condemned the worst attack on New Zealand soil.
