PORT ELIZABETH (Halbeeg News)-Armed assailants have shot and killed Somali businessman in South African port city of Elizabeth.
The gunmen killed Yussuf Mohamed Ibrahim inside his car at New Brighton, Port Elizabeth in Eastern Cape province on Sunday night.
The attackers later escaped the scene of the crime and still are at large.
Several Somali businessmen were killed in South Africa in recent years as part of xenophobic attacks carried out by the local gangs against foreign traders in the country.
Somali Foreign Affairs Minister, Ambassador Ahmed Issa Awad raised the issue with his South African counterpart, Lindiwe Sisulu earlier this month after meeting in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia during the annual African Union summit.
There is a significant Somali business community in South Africa that settled in the country after the collapse of the central government of Somalia in the early 1990s.
Somalia was among the African countries that were at the forefront in pushing for the independence of South Africa from the white apartheid government.
