STOCKHOLM (Halbeeg News)-Somali Minister Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Isse Awad has held a meeting with his Swedish counterpart, Margot Wallström in Stockholm.
The two officials discussed ways to strengthen Somali-Swedish relations and regional developments.
Awad and Margot underlined the importance of the Somali-Swedish partnership and the joint efforts to strengthen it.
The officials stressed the continuation of working together in several fields of mutual benefit including trade and diplomatic issues.
In a Twitter post, Margot lauded the meeting with Somali counterpart saying that the move will enhance the bilateral relations of the two countries.
Pleased to receive Somali Minister Awad for friendly and productive talks on Somalia. Sweden strongly supports continued reforms and democratization, in close cooperation with the UN and EU,” the post reads.
On the other hand, Swedish ambassador to Somalia, Andreas von Uexküll welcomed the meeting between the two ministers.
“The deep partnership between Somalia and Sweden manifested today during Foreign Minister Ahmed Isse Awad’s first visit to Stockholm,” Andreas said, “Productive meetings with my Foreign Minister Margot Wallström and Minister for Development Cooperation Peter Eriksson.”
Meanwhile, Minister Awad met with officials from the Swedish Agency for Peace, Security and Development ( FBA) on continued cooperation on peace- and state building in Somalia.
“Great meeting today at FBA Folke with Ahmed Awad on our future cooperation with Somalia. As part of Team Sweden we ready to contribute to the implementation of the bilateral development strategy on Somalia,” said Sven-Eric Söder, the Director General of the Folke Bernadotte Academy.
