GAROWE (Halbeeg News) – The newly elected Puntland leader, Said Abdullahi Dani and his deputy Ahmed Elmo Osman are expected to be inaugurated early next week.
In a statement, Puntland presidency said the event to inaugurate the leaders who were elected mid this week will be held on Monday.
“The inauguration of the ceremony will take place on 14th January at the presidential palace of Puntland state. The preparation of the event is at the final stage,” the statement reads in part.
Senior officials from the federal government are expected to attend the event.
On Saturday, President Dini accompanied by his deputy Ahmed Elmi paid a visit to the finance ministry to discuss minimizing regional administration’s expenditure during the power transitional period.
Lawmakers in Somalia’s semi-autonomous Puntland region have elected
Dini, a former Somali planning minister Saed Abdullahi won 35 out of 66 votes from regional lawmakers in the third, and last, round last Tuesday, defeating 20 other candidates.
During his campaigned, Dini vowed war on corruption and promoting economic growth.
President Dani has issued an executive order shortly freezing all accounts of his administration to avert embezzlement and mismanagement.
