Garowe(Halbeeg-News)-The newly elected president of Puntland regional state of Somalia, Said Abdullahi Dani has issued executive order to freeze the state’s to avert embezzlement.
The directive issued shortly after his swearing in, President Dani directed all private and public banks to immediately halt withdrawals from the state accounts.
“I hereby order that no withdrawals could be made in the name of the Puntland administrations from all bank accounts with effect from 8th January.” The new president said in the letter.
“In that regard, I command you to implement the order.” He added.
Dani who served the ministry of Planning during the government of Prime Minister Abdiweli Sheikh Ahmed had pledged to fight corruption which allegedly engulfed the state in recent years.
The new leader will serve a five-year term as president of Puntland state which is located on the Gulf of Aden near the entrance to the Red Sea, Puntland.
The state which became semi-autonomous in 1998 after the fall of Somali central government is rich in oil.
The immediate leader of state, Abdiweli Ali had awarded oil concessions to companies including DNO International ASA of Norway, Vancouver-based Africa Energy Corp. and RAK Gas LLC of the United Arab Emirates.
