MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Senior Al-Shabab commander on Monday surrendered to Somali security forces in Kismayu town.
Jubbaland state officials told media that they had received Al-Shabaab fighter who recently defected from the group.
The defector identified as Ali Hassan Abdullahi who had been a member of the militant group for 10 years said to have left the group and reached decision to join the government.
Abdullahi called on those still in the group to defect noting they would be received well by the government.
The defector lauded the security forces for welcoming him, adding that there were more Al-Shabab fighters who are planning to defect.
There was no immediate comment from Al-Shabaab group on the latest defections from its group.
The defection comes amid Jubbaland state forces plan to intensify operations against Al-Shabaab fighters.
