MOGADISHU(Halbeeg-News)- Former Al-Shabaab deputy leader, Mukhtar Robow Abu Mansoor has been deported to Mogadishu following his arrest in Baido this morning, sources confirmed.
Mr. Robow reportedly landed in Mogadishu’s Adan Adde airport after he was airlifted from Baidoa, the interim administrative capital of Southwest state.
The arrest was confirmed by Somali ministry for Internal Security in a statement saying Robow was amassing forces in Baidoa town and was threat to the security of the town.
“Unfortunately, he [Robow] started bringing weapons in the town and assembling forces he intended for threatening and disrupting the security of the country specially Baidoa town,” the statement reads in part. “Therefore, the ministry today 13th December 2018, arrested Mukhtar Robow.”
In October, Somali Interior Ministry barred Robow from the election saying he was a beneficiary of a presidential pardon and still faces sanctions.
“Although many restrictions against Mukhtar Robow Abu Mansur were lifted since he abandoned Al-Shabaab, many restrictions still remain that affect his freedom of movement, his finances and limitations imposed by Interpol,” the statement by the ministry reads.
The directive was dismissed by Southwest state electoral committee and accepted Robows candidacy.
Following his defection, the United States removed him from its terror list and scrapped a $5 million bounty for his capture.
