MALINDI(HALBEEG News)-Kenyan detectives are interrogating a Somali man linked to the abduction of an Italian woman in Kenya’s coast region.
Dumal Haji Osman together with two another suspects, Hassan Barow Khamis was arrested last Saturday at a forest in ASA Kone, according to local newspaper, Daily Nation.
They were accused of trying to supply food to kidnappers.
Chief inspector Peter Muriithi said a Toyota Fielder motor vehicle belonging to the two suspects was recovered deep in the forest.
“We believe the two wanted to supply food and medication to the assailants since they have been adversely mentioned in the kidnapping of the Italian Volunteer, [Silvia Romano],” said the detective.
Mr. Muriithi said the investigations cover Mombasa, Kilifi, Tana River, Garissa Counties and Somalia.
He noted that the kidnappers could be trying to cross over to Somalia with the woman.
“Three are likely to face charges for offences of aiding and abetting the commission of terrorist act contrary to the law and conspiracy to commit a terrorist act,” said Muriithi.
The police are also holding third female suspect identified as Rukia Nino said to be the wife of one of three key suspects in the abduction, Said Adan Abdi.
On Monday, the police presented the trio before Malindi Court Magistrate, Jullie Oseko to request for more days to complete the investigation.
The magistrate allowed the police detain the three for two weeks to conclude the probe.
