MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somalia National Army (SNA) backed by AMISOM is conducting a joint military operations to flush out Al-Shabaab fighters from Lower Shabelle region in Southern Somalia.
In the recent days, the government forces have been conducting house to house operations against Al-Shabaab in some parts of the region and have seized several areas from the Al-Shabaab group.
Lower Shabelle governor, Mohamed Ismail Barre who spoke to the media said the government forces backed by AU troops launched an operation to clear Al-Shabaab fighters from Gandarshe and Jilib-Marka villages.
“Somali military and AMISOM are conducting joint operations along the road connecting Km50 and Km60 localities,” he said.
The governor said that the areas they have seized over from Al-Shabaab are safe and secure under the control of the Somalia National Army and the African Union forces.
He added that they will continue to increase the security operations in all parts of the region to flush out the Al-Shabaab.
