MOGADISHU(Halbeeg News)- The first deputy speaker of federal parliament of Somalia, Abdiweli Mudeu has disbanded the parliamentary committee of finance and planning.
The decree from the office of the deputy speaker indicated that the decision was reached after the committee disagreed on a report issued by some section of the committee that that accused the ministry of finance and Benadir region administration of corruption and money embezzlement.
The deputy speaker said in the statement that a new committee will be appointed soon to replace the former committee.
The minister for finance Abdirahman Duale Beyle who appeared before the parliament denied vehemently the allegations labeled against his ministry.
The minister said his ministry has records indicating all the money collected were channeled in the right purpose.
The report released on 19th of November by Somali parliamentary committee on finance alleged mismanagement of funds at the Ministry of Finance and Mogadishu regional administration.
In the report, the Committee said millions of dollars are unaccounted, and there is no proper documentation of expenses.
The Committee reported that $20 million which was part of $50 million budgetary support from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in 2017 has not been accounted.
The Committee noted that the money has not been added to 2018 budget.
The Committee accuses the ministry of finance of failing to collect taxes from remittance companies and banks.
