ADDIS ABABA (Halbeeg News) – The Ethiopian government has recalled its general Consul in Somaliland, Brigadier General Berhe Tesfaye to Addis Ababa just a week after the leaders of Somalia, Eritrea and Ethiopia met in Bahar Dar, Ethiopia.
Gen Tesfaye who has served as his country’s resident diplomat in the breakaway Somaliland for a decade has reportedly informed Somaliland authority the summon by his government.
Speaking to the media, Somaliland lawmaker, Ismail Suldan said the Ethiopian Consul was directed to report to Addis Ababa for an undisclosed reasons.
“We do not know if Ethiopian government plans to appoint new a consul for its diplomatic mission in Hargeisa but, Gen Tesfaye was recalled in Addis Ababa,” Ismail said.
During his tenure, the outgoing Diplomat has facilitated the cordial relations existing between Ethiopia and Somaliland.
Gen Berhe Tesfaye was behind many agreements reached by Addis Ababa and Hargeisa.
For years, Somaliland which has declared a unilateral independence from the rest of Somalia in 1991 had maintained informal diplomatic relations with neighboring countries including Ethiopia, Kenya, and Djibouti.
