MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somali National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) has said Al-Shabaab senior commander was killed in an airstrike carried out by U.S. drones in Southern Somalia.
NISA said Al-Shabaab officials in charge of collecting revenue was eliminated on last Thursday in an airstrike conducted by the US military in Kunya Barow village of Lower Shabelle region.
The agency did not disclose the name of the targeted Al-Shabaab commander.
“Senior Al-Shabaab operative who was in charge of tax collectin was killed by a missile on 25th/10/2018, in Kunya Barow village,” NISA said in a Twitter post.
The statement comes barely a day after U.S. Africa Command (Africom) said its forces killed two Al-Shabaab fighters in the bombardment which happened in Kunya Barow village.
A technical vehicle belonging to Al-Shabaab was also destroyed in the attack which was carried out on Thursday.
This will be the second Al-Shabaab official killed operations against the group in Southern Somalia.
In a series of tweets, the African Union mission in Somalia (AMISOM) said al-Shabab’s head of tax collection in Lower Shabelle region was killed on Monday after an ambush on a meeting in Bariire village.
