NAIROBI (Halbeeg News) – Ethiopian lawmakers have approved new cabinet ministers tabled by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.
Abiy appointed 20 ministers including women following the parliament endorsement reduced government ministries to 20 from 28.
“This is to show respect to the women for all the contribution they have made to the country,” Abiy told lawmakers in the capital, Addis Ababa before the House voted for the new ministers, “The new cabinet is expected to reform their respective ministries, remove the walls of bureaucracy, bring innovation and technology to provide services efficiently.”
According to Ethiopia’s Fana, the country’s House of Representatives has unanimously endorsed the cabinet which is included a new ministry for peace.
A woman also leads the newly formed Ministry of Peace.
Mrs. Mufuriat Kami will lead the newly formed Ministry of Peace.
The last six months also saw numerous ethnic-based clashes in the country, resulting in the killing of hundreds and the displacement of 2.8 million people making Ethiopia number one in the world in the number of people displaced in 2018.
