MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – At least two people have been killed and five others sustained injuries in a bomb blast near Somali ministry for defense headquarters in Daynille district of Mogadishu, medics confirmed on Monday.
A car laden with explosives has hit a European Union armoured convoy travelling along Mogadishu’s Industrial road.
The targetted armoured vehicle which had Italian and EU flags on it, reportedly had extensive damage caused by the explosion.
The Aamin Ambulance director Dr. Abdirahman Abdulkadir who spoke to the media confirmed the death of two people and injuries of five others.
The victims were said to be civilians who happened to be near the convoy during the blast.
Al-Shabaab claimed the responsibility for the attack.
“We targeted officers of EU forces with (a) suicide car bomb. We shall give details of casualties later,” Abdiasis Abu Musab, the group’s military operations spokesman told Reuters.
Neither Somali government nor officials of EUTM have commented on the incident.
Italy has over 200 personnel who were deployed in Mogadishu to train the Somali National Army.
