BELEDWEYNE(Halbeeg News) – Somali forces backed by African Union Mission (AMISOM) troops on Wednesday recaptured villages in the Hiiraan region as the military intensified attacks against the Al-Shabaab.
Somali military officials said the forces launched a major offensive against Al-Shabaab, capturing three villages along Beledweyne-Bulaburde road.
The villages include Tarshanta, Ber-Hano and Nur-Fanah villages.
Al-Shabaab fighters reportedly tried to resist but were overpowered.
The group not commented on the capture of the villages in the region.
The latest attack came amid increased military operations in the southern regions of the country, conducted jointly by African Union forces and the Somali National Army.
The allied forces hope to force out the militants ahead AMISOM exit.
