BAIDOA (Halbeeg News) – Somali National Army (SNA) soldiers on Sunday launched an offensive against Somalia-based Al Shabaab fighters in Southern Somalia.
The soldiers are said to have been on security operations in an area under Burhakaba town before encountering Al-Shabaab fighters.
Speaking to media, Mohamed Ibrahim Nur, Burhakaba district commissioner who confirmed the clashes said Somali military killed six Al-Shabaab fighters during the gun battle outside the town.
“the forces have killed six Al-Shabaab fighters at an area outside Burhakaba town in Bay region after heavy fighting with Al-Shabaab fighters,” Mr, nur said.
He did not disclose the number of soldiers injured in the latest fighting in southern Somalia.
Al-Shabaab has not commented on the military victory claimed by the Somali government officials in the region.
