JOWHAR (Halbeeg News) – Somali special forces backed by U.S. military personnel have freed seven captives after a covert operation in Middle Shabelle region.
The allied forces raided the Al-Shabaab bases in Baghdad and Basra villages overnight.
Military officials said the forces destroyed the training bases in the villages in Middle Shabelle region.
Reports stated that the forces have conducted operations in areas between Afgooye and Ballad towns.
The move comes amid the government intensified their fight against Al-Shabaab fighters in southern Somalia.
The forces recaptured several towns in Middle and Lower Shabelle region from Al-Shabaab fighters following deadly clashes.
Late last month, Somali military dislodged Al-Shabaab fighters Marka, a town 100km southwest of Somali capital Mogadishu.
The military commanders vowed to continue the operations against Al-Shabaab fighters.
Al-Shabaab which once controlled many towns in Southern Somalia including the capital, was weakened after SNA and troops continental intensified offensives to annihilate the group from the Horn of Africa nation.
Thousands of African Union troops are supporting the Somali government in the fight against Al-Shabaab.
