MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – At least 10 people have been killed and 15 others sustained injuries after a suicide bomber detonated an explosives-laden vehicle at the gate of a district headquarters in Mogadishu.
The large blast has badly damaged the compound of the Hodan district’s headquarters.
Reports say the majority of those killed in the attack are soldiers who were guarding the compound.
“I saw 11 bodies at the scene, there were over ten wounded people who were taken to the hospitals in the city,” said Mohamed Muse, a witness at the scene.
Capt. Mohamed Hussein who spoke to Associated Press (AP) said seven people were wounded, and most of the victims were district workers and soldiers.
Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack, which is the second such attack on a district headquarters in the capital this month.
The attack is the second one on local government headquarters in less than two weeks.
Last Sunday, Howlwadag district headquarters was targeted, killing over five people and 13 others wounded, most of them school children.
Al-Shabaab often targets hotels, government institutions, military bases and other civilian populated areas in the capital.
