MOGADISHU(Halbeeg)- The federal government of Somalia has arrested security officials over corruption charges, government officials confirmed.
Speaking at a press conference in Mogadishu on Saturday, the deputy commander of Somalia’s criminal Investigation department ( CID), Bishar Abshir Gedi said 28 government officials mostly security forces are in Mogadishu Central police station over corruption charges.
“ 28 officials mostly security forces are now under investigation on corruption charges, there are some other forces who were accused defying orders which hampered the efficiency of the duties” Gedi said.
He warned the civil servants against corruption and embezzlement of public funds adding that stern action will be taken against anyone found guilty on the charges leveled against them.
Last week, the federal government of Somalia has detained over ten government officials over corruption charges.
The managing director of Mogadishu seaport revenue authority, Ahmed Ali Samow and other officials from the ministry of finance were arrested.
Samow surrendered himself to the police at CID headquarters in Mogadishu where his investigation is now underway.
Somali Prime minister, Hassan Ali Khayre speaking at a number of occasions held in Mogadishu pledged that his government will intensify the crackdown on corruption adding that any sort of such malpractice will not tolerated.
“My government is determined not to tolerate any form of corruption and is geared towards eradicating such misconduct.”
