QORYOOLEY(Halbeeg News)- Somali government forces backed by African Union peace-keeping troops launched intensive security operations against Al-shabab militants in areas under Qoryooley district in Lower Shabelle region.
Col. Hussein Hoosh among security officials leading the operations told the local media that the new operation in the region is aimed to push annihilate Al-shabab presence in the strategic areas of the region especially the route linking Qoryooley and Buur-hakaba districts in Lower Shabelle and Bay regions.
“ The operations are intended to smoke out Al-shabab from the region, we urge them[ Al-shabab militants] to lay down arms and shun from the bad actions” Col. Hoosh added “ The operations will continue until all the areas under Al-shabab militants are liberated”
According to Col. Hoosh the joint forces will target key Al-shabab hide-outs and coordination centers of Al-shabab in the region.
This recent operation comes two days after Al-shabab militant waged ambush attack against a convoy of AMISOM troops plying along the road linking KM 60 and Gaywaarow villages outside Qoryoley district.
Fierce fighting between the sides that lasted for an hour broke out in the area.
The armed group, Al-shabab in their affiliate website claimed they have killed seven AMISOM troops during the fighting.
