LUUQ( Halbeeg News)- Somalia’s Al-shabab fighters took over the control of villages close to Dolow town in Gedo region on Friday evening, sources confirm.
The fighters took over Geedweyne village, 10 KM outside Dolow town and other villages in the area without resistance after the withdrawal of government forces from the area.
The reason behind the government forces’ withdrawal from Geedweyn and surrounding areas is not known but the commanders often say their pull out is for tactical reasons.
The government forces together with Jubbaland police having been conducting operations in these areas the last few weeks in a bid to smoke out Al-shabab from the region.
The administration of Gedo region is yet to give comment on the withdrawal of the forces from the towns.
