MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Two military soldiers convicted in June and July of robbing Hormoud Telcom, one of the leading telecommunication companies in Somalia, were sentenced Thursday to 5 years in prison.
Constable Abdikarim Muse Muhyadin (22) and Constable Aweys Farah Mohamud (21) were found guilty of carrying out robberies at two branches of Hormoud located in Kawa-Godey and Garas-Balay areas.
The two together with another man said to be civilian made away with a sum of 12874 USD.
The Prosecutors told the court that “the two accused, together with another suspect who was not in court, committed the crimes on June 2, 2018, in Kawa-Godey and on July 7, 2018, in Garas-Balay.”
Hassan Ali Nur Shute, Somalia’s military court chief handed down the sentence in the military tribunal in Mogadishu, ending the case that has spanned one month period.
“Constable Abdikarim Muse Muhyadin and Constable Aweys Farah Mohamud were sentenced to five years in jail each,”
Thursday’s verdicts were the first in connection with the robbery crimes that have been said were executed by Somali armed forces.
