The President of Kenya, Uhuru Mungai Kenyatta on Tuesday appointed the country’s first Somali Director of Public Prosecutions.
In a twitter, President Uhuru said Nooradin Mohamed Hajji will be replacing Keriako Tobiko as DPP.
“I have convoyed to the National Assembly the nomination for vetting and approval of Justice Paul Kihara Kariuki as Attorney General and Nooradin Mohamed Haji as Director of Public Prosecutions,” said President Uhuru.
Nooradin who is the son of Garissa Senator Yusuf Haji served as the country’s National Intelligence Service Deputy Director.
Tobiko resigned to take over as Environment Cabinet Secretary.
The President also named Hassan Noor Hassan as Sport of Chief Administrative Secretary ( CAS).
Noor who is an active of member of the only Somali dominated party, Economic Freedom Party ( EFP) has lost 2017 Mandera gubernatorial election to the incumbent governor, Ali Roba.
Hassan filed a petition contesting the win of Roba who has been heading the county for the last five years.
Hassan nomination came shortly after EFP reportedly threatened to desert Jubilee, Kenya ruling of party.
Mohamed Ibrahim Elmi was appointed as the Environment Cabinet Secretary.
“I have appointed the following to the post of Chief Administrative Secretary ( CAS) Eng. John Musonik ( Petrlium and Mining), Hassan Noor Hassan ( Sports) and Mohamed Ibrahim ( Environment)” said Uhuru.
