Five Burundian soldiers under AMISOM were confirmed dead in an ambush attack carried out by Al-shabab fighters in the outskirts of Bal’ad district in Middle Shabelle region on Friday.
Burundian deputy president Gaston Sindimwo told VOA Somali service that his country lost five soldiers part of AMISOM soldiers giving support to the government forces.
Mr. Gaston stated that the convoy came under ambush attack along the Jowhar-Bal’ad road and engaged in fierce gun battle that last for almost half an hour with the fighters.
Al-Shabab said it had killed more than 20 AU soldiers, but military officials said that figure was exaggerated.
