At least 18 people have been confirmed dead and dozens wounded in a coordinated gun-and-bomb attack carried out by Al-Shabab near the presidential palace tonight.
Tonight’s assault began when attackers rammed an explosives-packed car around Dorbin Hotel, which is near Liido beach, and exchanged firce gunfire with security guards.
A second massive car bomb blast went off around Dagahtur monument where the government forces have a base.
Security Minister Mohamed Abukar Islo told reporters that the security forces have managed to conclude Al-shabab’s direct attack and killed five of the attackers while trying to storm the presidential palace immediately after the suicide bombs.
The minister stated that he will give full reports on the explosions after ongoing investigations are over.
The wounded people during the explosions were rushed to the hospitals by the ambulances that arrived the scene.
