The Police in the semi-autonomous regional state of Puntland has incinerated fifty cartons of expired dates which they impounded in Galkayo, officials said Tuesday.
Farah Galangoole, an Office commanding Police Division (OCPD) said the police impounded vehicle loaded with the cartons at checkpoint.
“The police at the checkpoint ransacked a truck heading to Beledweyne town and recovered cartons of expired dates following tip- off. The cartons were transported from Bossaso port,” said Galangoole.
Police destroyed the goods at an open area in the outskirts of the town.
He noted that they have detained several people in connection with the confiscated cartons.
“We have arrested several people for this incident, they will be arraigned in court after we complete the investigation into the case,” he explained.
The commissioner vowed to speed up the fight against expired drugs and food stuff in the town.
“We are going increase the inspections to check the expiry date of the commodities entering the town,” he said.
