BELEDWEYNE (Halbeeg News) – At least one person has been killed and two others injured in landmine explosion in Somalia’s central town.
According to witnesses, the explosion hit a car belonging to the District Deputy Commissioner, Abdirashid Osman Arab in the town centre of Mahas.
Mr. Arab reportedly killed in the blast while two other occupants are said to have sustained injuries.
The identity of the other two passengers have not yet been established.
Officials say the blast was caused by a remote-controlled Improvised Explosive Devices (IED).
Somali forces who reached the scene have launched operation to pursue the perpetrators of the attack.
In a statement posted on its affiliate online media, al-Shabaab has claimed the responsibility for the attack.
