MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Abdullahi Sheikh Mohamed has emerged the winner in a by-election in Baidoa, the Interim administrative capital of Southwest.
Mohamed and three others were potential contestants for the member of parliament seat which vacated by the former MP Khalif Sheikh Abdullahi who died last year while in office.
His rivals were Isack Moalim Sheikh, Hassan Moalim Ibrahim, and Abdikadir Sheikh Mohamed.
According to sources at the hall, the three other candidates have failed turn up but the electoral commission had proceeded to hold the election which saw Mr. Mohamed as the sole candidate present at the venue.
Mohamed Ahmed Nur, from Somali National Independent Electoral Commission, has declared the results of the election.
Mr. Mohamed secured 35 votes out of possible 51 votes making him the successor of the late Khalif.
Late Khalif who joined late 2016 died April 2018 in Mogadishu after a short illness.
